I have Asperger's Syndrome and am married. I thought the author showed a total lack of understanding and respect of what it is to be an Asperger. Like others I too was also deeply insulted by many of her naive assumptions about Asperger's Syndrome and I found myself muddled by the structure of Jacobs guidelines and advice.
Like many books on the subject the author writes about our differences as though we are second class citizens that have something wrong with us and needs to be treated in order to act more like a Neuro Typical person. As an Asperger I consider myself as Normal but Different. Where this book totally falls apart and fails is where I notice Neuro Typicals when reviewing this book use the word Sympathy/Sympathetic. We do not require Neuro Typical sympathy, we are human beings and require acceptance and genuine understanding from our fellow human beings. If one looks at sites that sell this book many Asperger's give it a low rating out 5 saying that they didn't like the book and could not recommend it. Women who experience failed relationships with Asperger men has little to do with incompatibility rather more to do with these women have failed to understand and accept the differences between us Asperger's and how we act in the world and their Neuro Typicality. I can not and am unable to recommend this book. I think this book is a complete waste of money and not worth buying. However, I think that women who enjoy reading a Catherine Cookson weepy love story novel may enjoy this book.
