Now at the age of 15 she is on a very long waiting list to be assessed ( for the second time) as 10 years ago she was rejected as having a problem on the autistic spectrum. In this time we have done battle with various schools over her extreme behaviour and the fact that she is a constant target for the bullies. I can't help but feel that a proper assessment and diagnosis years ago may have made her life a little more berable and she may have not hated school for most of her life so far! Hi this is the first time ive used this site, I was looking to try and find my daughter a penpal whom she can write or email to who also has autism/aspergers. This is all new to us, so we are still learning about it and coming up against obstacles. Our daughter was recently diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder with a learning disability, she also has had constent problems at school with bullies and has no friends, she finds it difficult to communcate and interact with other kids, she is a very shy girl who has been missed by the education and not assessed. we are currently appealing for a statement. It would be really great if we could swap views and maybe help each other. My daughters name is jade and she is now 14yrs of age. hope to hear from you soon, joanne Hello, am a mum with a 14 yrd old girl who has just recently been diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder with a learning disability. she is a very shy girl and has always struggled to interact and communcate with other kids, only to be told by teachers she is shy and lacks confidence. Now we are going through the process of hospital and doctors appointments and appealing for a statement to be done. it just seems to be never ending paperwork at the moment, it would be really helpful to chat to others who are going through the same problems. hope to hear from you all soon, joanne |

Hello - There is a book by Rudy Simone called "Aspergirls" you can read the review of it in the previous(not current) issue of Asperger United which is a magazine produced by and for autistic/asperger people you have to contact the N.A.S. but don't be put off as auties have total editorial control. I think it's available online. There is also"Pretyending to be Normal" by Liane Holiday Willey and writers wendy Lawson and Donna Williams who have contact addresses online and answer questions. All the best.Ephemerol9 |
