Work
Hello,

I am a 48 year old Asperger living in Norfolk, UK.

Are there any Aspergers or anyone with a related condition who can actually recommend any scheme which has been set up, allegedly to give work to those of us who genuinely can't cope with a regular workplace. Does anyone know anyone who has actually a paid job which they were able to stay in for longer than a few days. Please no replies from organisations or people promoting them.

Also does anyone of a legitimate homeworking scheme that pays?

Is there any kind of either free or cut price skills training excluding computer and office work for instance using an industrial sewing machine?

Thanks

D Maher

RE: Work
i'm a 47 year old male,ex single dad who has very few quals and was put in care at13 for being aspergers.I am an experienced sound engineer, computer technician, mechanic, electrician ,film and video producer, multi instrument musician and an artist so I can asnwer your question with bitter eperience.YOU CANNOT TRUST THE NHS OR THE NAS.Think of yourself as a black person living in victorian britain.Whatever you do you will be discriminated against .Some job centres have workers who 'specilaise' in finding employment for us but most of the time they mean 'occupational therapy' and treat aspies as 'handicaapped/disabled.The best thing you can do is sort yourself out and play on your strengths and work for yourself.if you have the support of a partner or freind who could assist you with the paperwork/finance/practical company strategy you could go far.if you don't you worst fears will be that the future will be the same as the past.3 years ago I told my loving and loyal partner that I wanted to leave her because I felt that continuing being a dad and devoted partner was driving me madder.i was undiagnosed then and my partner tried to have me put in the luny bin under the pretext of Post traumatic Stress disorder. After 5 days they let me out as 'normal' , but i returned home to find the house sold behind my back(mostly her house) and all my possesions dissapeared .I could have only been conned like this because I'm an aspergy. Now I am homeless on the streets of |manchester and have lost my very profitable film company ,all my money and I am being treated as a alkie/drug addict by the nhs because I'm homelesss. In the end if you find employment through a charity or goverment agency you will be treated as a mong, not as a person with highly constructive/creative gifts. As you may be aware by now ,people like to focus on the clever things of aspies and this really is an irrelavence as the fundamental day to day emotional/anxiety problems are the qualities that apies need help with ,not the clever, they can do clever all night long ,its just the sub concious reactions to anxiety and biological dispositions that are the problem.I have to admit that I'm a mong and it is NO comfort that my freinds tell me that I should be a multi millionare by now but they don't relaise i cant count time, numbers, days of the weeek ,rotas n calenders.if you or your partner have accomidation for rent or need a builder/electrician etc... just drop me a line .after all these years of being abused and ripped off by family and freinds I have decided that i have nothing to lose ,my kids are grown up at uni and I can't think of anything better than to completely ex communicate my family (except my kids) and all my so called freinds and go to London and be treated marginally better than being homeless in manchester.Remember ,mostly ,only the posh kids get a diagnosis.if you are from the lower classes you should expect to be labelled and misdiagnosed as personality disorder/shizo/non specific lunacy or whatever the crapulent NHS wants to give you .Don't trust the mental health workers ,they will just use your anxiety ,insomnia ,erratic personality against you because in terms of mental health ,they are just crawling out of the primeaval slime.Compliment yourself and trust what you know about aspies and be confident in your knowledge. The neurotypicals (as they call them) are really semi concious and easily influenced by the dross of tv and collective hysteria.Trust yourself and your expression and don't trust most of the nt's. with respect mr. phil maffia.
Your born with it,its not an illness ,although it feels like a lifelong curse it does give you the freedom to think ,combine this with confidence and bingo !the nt s start licking our asses because they think we are geniuses .But after inviting us round for dinner a few times the quickly tire of our astute and intelligent observations and comments. When nts start moaning about the world to me i tell them "go to work, pay your taxes ,and shut the f888 up!"yes it appears they have the benefits but deep down you know you would'nt want a 'normal' life as you might as well fill yourself with tranqalizers and rarely speak! If you ever wondered why the country is a mess just remember the intellectual/emotional stupidity of a system long rotted like post industrial capitalism.
If you can work fro yourself DO IT.it takes confidence but the buzz is exhilarating and you will find your uniquenesss.for instance i can film a music gig with one home video camera and produce a pop video with great audio wheras most filmmakers produce great video with crap sound because they are 'normal' and perceive sound as a seperate discipline and so consequently are terrified to leave their comfort zones.people have said to me many times that I'm a jack of all ,master of none type person .i just laugh and smile because they dont understand that aided by obbsesion I have more than a degree's worth in 6 subjects. hope it helps .my email is unitybiker@yahoo.co.uk if you need any support (except money and houses at the moment!) phil maff
