On Autistic Spectrum But Not
Hi,
I have a ten year old son who has had 2 ADOS tests. The first one he was 1 point under, the last one which was last year came back that he was sitting on the Spectrum. Brilliant. This is exactly what we wanted. But, and it's a big But, in an Autistic situation he doesn't appear to be Autistic and in a non Autistic situation he does.
His whole life is based in a non Autistic situation, including home, school etc.
We are unable to get him to school. His previous psychiatrist thinks that the school set up is wrong for him. But we cannot get him into a school which specialises in Autism as they will not give him a formal diagnosis.
He is exceptionally violent in the home but not at school. Luckily enough our social worker saw a totally different side to him yesterday. He changes from one extreme to the other in the blink of an eye. His violence can last for hours, then he will suddenly turn around and start talking to you as though nothing is wrong.

He also has ADHD traits and massive anxiety problems.

He spent 16 weeks in a residential unit last year, then we moved 300 miles and since August he has been without a psychiatrist and medication. He was on Respiridone. But after being told 2 weeks ago that he was non priority to see a psychiatrist, I contacted them, and within 24 hours was made a priority. And we have an appointment in just under 2 weeks.

Both myself and my older children take the brunt of his violence. My husband sees slightly less. Although he totally trashed our living room in front of my husband yesterday.

Has anyone else had a problem similar?

I know I shouldn't want to have a label put on him, but this is the only way that the education dept etc are going to give him the help that is suitable for him
