could my son have aspergers?
Hi since i can remember i have had problems with my son Darren [12]& his terrible behavoir & sudden mood swings & would be really grateful for any information on who to contact for further investigation as home life is hell. he suffers from cystic fibrosis [a genetic life limiting disorder affecting the lungs & digestive system] as does my 13 year old daughter [ normal behavior]. Darren has had problems controlling his behavior since he was about 3/4 years old, he was thrown out of mainstream school at age 8 & sent to a school for children with learning difficaulties & now attends a seconary school for the same, i have had little or no help with darren & he is getting worse, whilst very bright he can hardly read or write [im not sure if this is due to a condition or because he is so naughty], basically i am wondering if anyone else has had the same problems, he shows signs of ADHD but i have been told he hasnt got it, he can be remorseful after an outburst, but it does not stop him doing it again. he has hardly any friends & i feel so sorry for him, please tell me more about aspergers. thanks, lisa.x.

RE: could my son have aspergers?
Some of those things would point to me in the way of something related (Autistic Spectrum), if not Aspergers.
It is known that AS can affect grip and motor skills. Here's some useful links: http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/autism.html http://www.baltimorepsych.com/aspergers.htm http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/medica...166811.stm Good luck! RE: could my son have aspergers?
Hi, I too had trouble getting help with my son, we knew something was wrong when he was 2/3 yrs old. It wasnt until he was 5 that I started to get some help, prior to that I was told he was a 'naughty child'. I finally got the help needed after constant nagging the doctor & school to refer him to anyone who could help & threatening to go to all the newspapers saying the health & school are refusing me help, ( sounds drastic but by then I was at my wits end with his behaviour and lack of help) The school finally ran some tests & found he is dyslexic then finally refered us to a child psychologist who immediately knew it was something more than bad behaviour.
Does your drs surgery have a person there on certain days who helps out with any problems you may be having. Our surgery has recently started this service on a weds. Or maybe try asking at the local child clinic, they usually have contact numbers available. Hope you get on ok. |

Hello Lisa,If your child had problems to the extent of exclusion from a mainstream school he should have been on the special needs system and being assessed, has he got a statement of educational needs? As he is in a special placement he should be reviewed on a regular basis,a process that should involve you. The school must have a SENCO, you should get free access to this person and be able to discuss the issues, your homelife is very much part of your sons existence and the school should want to be informed of any problems as they affect your sons education for which they are responsible. Your GP should help by referring you to a consultant pediatrician for further assessment, the Health visitor is always a good point of contact, they have access to many agencies in your area and can often be very useful. Do let us know how you get on. |

RE: could my son have aspergers?
Hi lisa it is quite plausable that your son has aspergers. A.S, H.F.A, kanners, aspergers A.D/H.D, are al pervasive development discoders and are encompassed under the same umberella http://www.adrc.co.uk/referrals/assessme...tdiag.php.
this university diagnoses adults but I am sure would be very helpful that is if you are in the uk sounds like it cos thay are so CRAP!! It is possible that your sons condition is civing the health/educ authotities an excuse not to intervene (cost) you will have to fight your corner like a lioness! e mail if you think I can help |
