Introduce yourself...
Please say Hi and introduce yourself here..
Other that that, this area is for general stuff that might be of interest, that maybe doesn't quite fit in the other places. Gareth Roberts Aspergernauts IT Support Manchester UK Web Hosting |

RE: Introduce yourself...
Hello! I'm Patty and my husband and I have a daughter with Aspergers. She is 10 1/2 yrs old, sweet as can be, has a HARD time at school as the kids bully her all the time. Especially this one HUGE kid. Matter of fact, just last Thursday he threatened to "KILL" her! The school is taking this slightly as the teacher ONLY referred him to the principals office and as of today NOTHING has come of it.
What can I do legal wise if they want to 'brush' this under the carpet? I'm tired of my daughter crying after school and stating that she doesn't ever want to go back, etc. The kids bully her as she loves to read/draw at lunch instead of playing. On the ballfield she isn't all "that"..I've watched her run and she runs 'awkward' but finishes her trips around the track. She definately is a loner, no friends and it breaks my heart to watch her in PE. I get to the school 45 min before dismissal and I have the opportunity to watch her class outside on the grass field from my car. Any suggestions would be helpful! We live in Norfolk, Virginia (where the largest Naval Base is located). Hugs, Patty |

RE: Introduce yourself...
Hi,
That sounds really bad to me, I'll try and work things out and see if I can write up a post and some legal stuff for you... ;-) I do hope I and others that sign-up to this forum can help you sort this out, it's dredful the school is not taking this seriously. A threat is serious, especially a death threat - I would cirtainly contact someone like a laywer, you should be entitled to this free because of the Aspergers Syndrome. Threaten the school with legal action if nothing is done about this. Thats the only quick solution I can offer right now - I'll reply to you shortly on this! Thanks for posting this! RE: Introduce yourself...
Hi Patty, The school your daughter attends has a duty to look after her physical and mental wellbeing during the hours she spends at school and in their care. Their should be an anti bullying policy in place. Bullying can take various forms eg. physical abuse/tormenting/exclusion from the peergroup etc. When the balance of power is not equal, then its bullying. Your child will be anxious if she is being bullied and this will eventually affect her grades. School should provide a safe environment and has a duty to see that she is able to reach her potential and they should be looking after her emotional wellbeing whilst in their care. Teachers themselves can raise a pupils popularity within the class by complimenting on good work or if she tries hard at PE,or by asking her to do small tasks and making out that its really a great help. This will raise her self esteem and raise her value in the class. Another point is that a Quiet room should be available for her to go to when she finds mixing with others too much of an ordeal. If these issues are not addressed by the school they are failing her. An unhappy and anxious child will not have a brain that is free and open to learning and her grades will be affected. I would ask the school who is the person who mentors the vulnerable students? What is their anti-bullying policy? How can my daughters difficulties be addressed so tha tshe is able to reach her potential? Your daughter has a right to an education and to feel safe whilst she is getting it. Also to a person with AS the comment "I'll kill you" can be taken very literally and cause great anxiety to her. Good luck on your quest. I would be interested to know how things progress.

Just wanted to say hi, my name is helen, I'm relatively new to the world of aspergers and I have a very good friend who is helping me through and helping me to understand that it is fine to be the person I am, in spite of being "abnormal"...
I would just like to say to Patty I have a very good idea what your daughter is going through, I was bullied for practically the whole of my school life and to this day i have no idea what I did to deserve it...there is light at the end of the tunnel though and she will come through it eventually. Sorry I can't be of more help, I wish I had the answer to bullying, I think I'd be a rich person if I did, I saw so much of it happen to other people too
