AS Self Diagnosis
Hi all,
i am thinking of trying to get a diagnosis for my son, but first wondered if anyone can help with a self diagnosis first. i will keep it short to begin with my son is 9 yrs old and as had many meltdowns especially when he was younger, he would get quite upset if i had to trim hair ,he would always get angry if we announce we had to go out or he needed to take a bath or it was bedtime,he becomes quite upset if he has a supply teacher for the day and worries about it for days before it happens, he has spoilt parties and holidays etc, he often says he is hurt or crys if someone brushes past him lightly, he has trouble taking a joke ,he makes a lot of fuss if anyone is humming or tapping or the sun is shining through the casr windows, he doesnt always like hugs or affection and when he has had a meltdown , he doesnt understand why we are upset . obviously i have'nt mentioned everything here, but wondered if anyone has any advice.[/size] Many thanks |

RE: AS Self Diagnosis
Hya,
Thank you for your reply, yeah i am thinking i am going to take the step and take my son to the doctor's,i think when he was younger we just thought he would grow out of this behaviour, we had never heard of aspergers, and from then on we have just accepted he's different, but he has always had trouble making and keeping friends, he seems to always fall out with other children, or it seems sometimes he can't be bothered to play, he doesn't like team sports and playing family games with his brothers joining in always ends in tears or trouble. he behaves alot better one on one, as soon as another child is involved he changes. don't know if this sounds like your son too. appreciate your reply many thanks |

RE: AS Self Diagnosis
yes we have huge problems at home my son has 3 sisters and he cannot play nicely with them at all he always ends up loseing his temper and storming off over the smallest thing ! he also is fine when he is alone ! he likes to line up toys likes routine he will play occasionally but its always on his terms ! and if they dont comply god help em ! i awlays knew something was not right but other people always said its because hes a boy i only had girls so didnt know otherwise ! eye contact is another thing he avoids it most of the time ! also when he has overreacted to something and i try explain what he has done is wrong he will always have a reason as to why he did it you cannot get him to admit that he was wrong or say sorry because in his mind he has justifyed it its worth reading up as much as you can and having a good knowlage be4 you go doctors

RE: AS Self Diagnosis
Hya
yeah sounds like my house, we have 2 other boys and they are completley different to my son who we suspect as aspergers, i think many people think he is spoilt but he has had the same good upbringing as my other two boys. my son does that too he wont accept hes in the wrong he comes up with every excuse he can to jutify his actions. we had a christmas party at home and invited some family members round, the children we all enjoying it apart from my son, he was sat on the bedroom stairs when i went to look for him, making up excuses to not enjoy the party. we took him and his two brothers to flamingo land for his birthday last year for the weekend we stayed in a caravan, he spoilt the entire weekend, he was being awkward about everything, i just thought why isn't he enjoying himself. i then came across an aspergers website and it made me think.., i have read a few books too , the one i am reading at the moment is finding aspergers in the family, its very clear and easy to follow and i can realte to it very much thanks again |
